Qualified consultants backed by their experience and training at the Tavistock Centre.

Careers in Depth, formerly known as Tavistock Career & Educational Consultation, was founded in 1952 at the Tavistock Centre. Informed by psychological principles, we believe that career ideas and attitudes evolve alongside personal development.

We offer a range of services helping people to address dilemmas in their education and working lives.

The Careers in Depth team consists of qualified experienced consultants who come from a variety of relevant core disciplines. All have pursued different specialisations, often through work and training in the Tavistock Clinic. All work part-time in Career & Educational Consultation and are involved variously in clinical, occupational, Educational, Developmental psychology, student counselling, Psychoanalysis, recruitment, organisational and management development. This breadth of experience is brought to bear on the career consultation process.

Head of Service: Errica Moustaki

Jina Barrett BA, HDipEd, CQSW, MA(Consltn)
Jina Barrett is an organisational and career development consultant. She trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic and now works with both individuals and groups  in a variety of settings. In her applied work her particular interest lies in the relationship of individuals to their work, and the influence of the workplace setting on that relationship. In private practice, she provides role consultation, executive coaching, team and organisational development in the public, private and voluntary sector. She works at the Tavistock Centre, co-ordinating and providing a Group Relations-based consultation and training intervention for workers and managers in health and social care organisations. She is also a clinician in the NHS, where she provides specialist teaching and consultation for staff groups in mental health services. Originally trained as a teacher, she has also worked in social work, in career and enterprise development and in management of social care and training services.

Stewart Beever BA(Hons), PGCE, Dip.St.Couns.,Ass.Mbr. BAP, Mbr.BCP
Stewart Beever worked in industry and commerce before training as a teacher. Following a diploma in career guidance, he worked in HE for a number of years as a Careers Adviser. He completed a psychodynamic counselling training prior to extensive experience in workplace counselling and consultation and then qualified with the British Association of Psychotherapists as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. In addition to working as a consultant for Careers In Depth, he now teaches on Msc courses in counselling and consultancy at the University of London

Wendy Bolton BSc, DCP, C.Clin.Psychol., Mbr.TSP, Mbr.BCP
Wendy Bolton is a chartered clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. She divides her time between her clinical practice, teaching, career counselling and her consultancy work, in both the public and private sectors. She has experience of working in the areas of management selection and role consultancy and has a particular interest in the personal development issues involved in the match between the individual and their work.

Francesca Cardona BA(Hons)

Francesca Cardona is an organisational and management consultant who provides consultancy at individual, team and institutional level. She has taught on various management and leadership courses and has extensive experience in Group Relation Training Conferences designed to further the understanding of organisations and working groups. S he is currently a visiting tutor on the MA course 'Consultation and the Organisation' , Tavistock & Portman Trust & University of East London.

Francesca combines a practical focus with a particular attention to underlying dynamics and issues, always keeping in mind the organisational context. She has a particular interest in the area of individual and organisational transition.

Pippa Foster BA, DCP, C.Clin.Psychol., Mbr.TSP, Mbr.BCP
Pippa Foster trained as a clinical psychologist and psychoanalytical psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic, where she worked on the teaching staff of the Adolescent Department. She was a founding member of the Career and Educational Counselling service (CEC), and has a particular interest in the impact of transition, developmentally and culturally. In addition to her clinical practice she has worked in the public, private and voluntary sectors in consultancy, selection and training. This work  has included working internationally in Eastern Europe, Africa and Central America.

William Halton BA, Mbr.ACP, Mbr.BPC
William Halton is an independent organisational consultant and executive coach. He has a systems psychodynamics approach to the human dimension of organisations based on the Tavistock model. He is currently a visiting tutor to the experiential Developing Leaders programme at Henley Management College and has coaching and consultancy experience with chief executives, senior managers and frontline services in a variety of fields in the public, private and voluntary sectors. His special interests are in mediation work, personal development programmes and experiential group dynamics. He has extensive experience of directing group relations conferences in the UK and has worked in Spain, Italy, Israel, Denmark and Greece. He is a contributor to ‘The Unconscious at work’ edited by A. Obholzer and V Z Roberts and to ‘Working below the surface’ edited by C. Huffington. He is a qualified practitioner and supervisor in child and adult psychotherapy.

Errica Moustaki BA(Hons), MA Clin.Psychol., Mbr.TSP, Mbr.BCP
Errica Moustaki Careers In Depth director, is a clinical psychologist, and trained as specialist psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic. She has a long standing interest and experience in the application of psychoanalytic ideas in a variety of settings. Her specific areas of focus include working on the interface between emotional issues, personal development and work. Other areas include executive coaching, managing work relationships, handling difficult employees, team building and personal career development. She has led a variety of training programmes in the UK, Israel and the Netherlands, including teaching on 'Organizational Life' at Westminster University, the Tavistock Centre in London, and IPTAR (Institute of Psychoanalysis Training and Research) in New York. She is co-editor of 'Crisis At Adolescence, An Object Relations Approach' published by Jason Aronson 1992.

Janet Richards BA(Hons) DCP,AFBPsS,. C.Clin.Psychol., Mbr. GoP,Mbr.UKCP
Janet Richards trained as a clinical psychologist at the Tavistock Clinic and is a UKCP registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist. She has worked in various settings as a clinician and also as a trainer of psychotherapists and counsellors. She has considerable experience in working with young people as well as adults and has a particular interest in educational settings, having worked for many years in University student health services.

Associate Consultants

Wendel Caplan BSc, MA Devel.Psychol./Clin.Psychol.
Wendel Caplan has a combined degree in developmental and clinical psychology from Utrecht University Holland. She has worked as a psychologist/psychotherapist within the Dutch Health Service and has extensive experience of working within the UK, predominantly within the voluntary sector, as a psychotherapist, supervisor and project manager. Whilst at Utrecht University she worked for several years as a tutor to first year psychology students and she has worked as a student counsellor in this country. She was TCEC's client co-ordinator between 1992-2000.

Herbert Hahn BA(Hons):,MA Psychol.,Mbr, BAP, Mbr. SIP,Mbr.BCP

Herbert Hahn trained and has worked as a Clinical and Occupational Psychologist, Psychoanalytic Child and Adult Psychotherapist, and Group Relations consultant. His professional experience includes individual and group contracts with businesses, charities, the NHS, Universities, the Civil Service and consultancy firms. Currently he continues to work as a psychotherapist and fosters his interest in promoting Individual, organisational and societal development via the medium of supervision, mentoring and group facilitation including Social Dreaming as developed internationally by Gordon Lawrence. He has over 20 years of experience as a career consultant.

David Sonnenberg MSc, MBPsS, C.Clin.Psychol., Ass.Mbr.BAP, Mbr. TSP
David Sonnenberg trained in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cape Town and received further training in Psychotherapy and in Organisational Consultancy in London. Besides his work on career development he has worked for some time as a business psychologist, involved in communications training and as a teacher on entrepreneurship courses. He also consults internationally on management selection techniques.

John Wright BS (Hons), MSc C.Clin.Psychol., Mbr.TSP,Mbr. BCP
John Wright trained as a clinical psychologist at Leicester University and subsequently as an adolescent and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic. He has worked in various clinical settings with both adolescents and their families and with adults, both individually and in groups. He also has extensive experience as a researcher in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies and has supervised a range of professionals in the psychological aspects of their work.
